How to Fix USB OTG Not Detected Issue on Android?

Are you facing USB OTG issues on your Android phone? Is your smartphone not recognizing the USB devices connected to your phone via OTG cable? If yes, then you have come to the right place. There are several reasons why you are unable to use OTG with your Android phone. In this article, we are going to talk about some common reasons that can cause this issue. So what’s the wait? Let’s get in.

Importance of the USB OTG Cable in Today’s Life
An OTG cable allows one to connect USB devices to the Android phone or tablet. You can connect and use a mouse, keyboard, pen drives, SD cards, and more. However, the most important thing you can do with a USB OTG is that it helps your read and write data within your smartphone you don’t have to carry a bulky laptop to use a USB drive.
Here’s How to Solve USB OTG Not Detected On Android?
There can be many reasons for that such as hardware incompatibility, unsupported file manager, Incorrect file format, and more. Let’s see how to fix them.
Inspecting the Hardware Compatibility of Your Android
When an OTG cable does not connect a USB drive to your Android, then the most obvious reason can be your phone itself. Not all smartphones support USB OTG connectivity. If your device is too old, then it may not have the hardware to read USB devices. You can quickly check whether your device supports USB OTG or not by checking its specifications on the web. To check the specifications your Android Phone, open Google.com and then search for “(your device brand and model) + (specifications).”
On the device specifications webpage look for the “OTG support” feature. So if your device doesn’t support OTG, then you won’t be able to use USB OTG with your Android phone.
Using ES File Explorer
If your phone supports OTG cable connectivity, but still your USB device is not detected in your phone or tablet, then the reason can be the default file manager. You can install a third-party file manager from Google Play Store to access your external USB storage in your device.
We recommend you “ES File Explorer,” which is one of the best and the most used file manager among Android users. Once you install the file manager into your device, you can connect your USB data transfer device using the OTG cable. Then you have to launch the ES File Explorer to use your USB drive.
Formatting your USB Drive as FAT 32
If your USB data card or Pendrive use other formats than FAT 32, then your Android device may not detect it. So you have to format it as FAT 32 in order to use it with the Android tablet or mobile.
This process will remove all data from your USB data transferring device, so first, make sure to save the files into your laptop or desktop. Here’s how to format USB Pendrive or SDcard as FAT 32:
  1. On your computer, first, connect your USB drive.
  2. Now navigate to the “My Computer.”
  3. Find your USB drive and then right-click on it.
  4. Select the “Format” option.
  5. Choose the Quick Format option.
  6. Set up FAT 32 option from the dropdown.
  7. Hit the Start button.
You can check the USB OTG by connecting the USB storage device again with your phone. If your OTG cable connectivity is still not working, then check the OTG cable by connecting it to the other latest Android phone. If the OTG works on the other latest phone, then the problem is your old Android phone.
