How to Use NPM to Monitor the Network Performance

To do so, you need to follow the steps mentioned in this article.

Here’s how to use NPM to monitor the network performance
  • Install the Network Performance Monitor
  1. Execute the Orion Installer.
  2. You need to wait till it is launched on the screen.
  3. In case you want to evaluate the tool, then select the Lightweight Installation menu that will download all necessary components.
  4. If you want to test it on the SQL server official page then, select the Standard Installation option.
  5. You can change the installation directory by pressing on the Browser option.
  6. Press on the Next button.
  7. By going to the Select products webpage, ensure that the Network Performance Monitor menu is chosen and after that, press on the Next button.
  8. Let the procedure gets completed on the system.
  9. Agree on the legal agreement and after that, press on the Next button.
  10. Now, the installation procedure will start on the system.
  11. Let the Orion Installer complete the installation process of the Network Performance Monitor.
  12. Now, you will get the Configuration window on the screen.
  13. Press on the Next button to open the configuration window.
  14. By going to the Service Settings webpage, ensure that the service option is selected.
  15. After that, press on the Next button.
  16. In case you select the Standard Installation menu, offer the database information and then, choose the Next option.
  17. Go to the Database Account webpage.
  18. You need to either make a new account or offer account information.
  19. Let the procedure gets completed on the system.
  20. After finishing the wizard completely, press on the Finish option.
  • Add Discovered devices to NPM
  1. Choose the device which you wish to use for monitoring.
  2. After that, press on the Next button.
  3. Then, choose the interface option which wishes to monitor.
  4. After that, press on the Next button once again.
  5. Go through the import summary menu.
  6. After that, press on the Import option.
  7. Let the import to finish.
  8. Press on the Finish option.
  9. You will find this option on the Results webpage.
  • Discover the Network
  1. After closing the configuration window, you will get the Orion Web Console webpage on the desktop automatically.
  2. Enter ‘HostnameorlPaddress:Port in the provided column.
  3. Press on the Save and Login option.
  4. Click on the Settings tab.
  5. Press on the Network Discovery menu.
  6. It is located on the taskbar.
  7. Press on the Add New Discovery option to begin the Network Sonar window.
  8. You need to add any in the provided fields.
  9. After that, press on the Next button.
  10. By going to the Agents webpage, choose the given option, in case you want to complete this procedure.
  11. After that, press on the Next button.
  12. Start discovering the Vmware ESX or vCenter hosts on the network.
  13. You will find this on the Virtualization webpage.
  14. For adding the host, press on the Add New Credential option.
  15. Enter the necessary details.
  16. Press on the Save option.
  17. By going to the SNMP webpage, in case you are using the SNMPv3 strings, then press on the Add New Credential option.
  18. In case you are using the SNMPv1 and SNMPv2 instead of the public and private, start adding them through the Add New Credential option.
  19. After completing all these steps, press on the Discover option.
